Design Architect - Quality Standards
Overview
This document defines comprehensive quality standards for the Design Architect persona in the BMAD Method. These standards ensure consistent, accessible, and scalable design system implementations that meet business objectives and user needs.
Quality Framework
Quality Dimensions
The Design Architect quality assessment framework evaluates deliverables across six key dimensions:
- Design System Consistency (25%)
- Accessibility Compliance (20%)
- User Experience Quality (20%)
- Technical Implementation (15%)
- Documentation Quality (10%)
- Brand Alignment (10%)
Quality Scoring
Each dimension is evaluated on a 5-point scale:
- 5 - Exceptional: Exceeds all standards and best practices
- 4 - Excellent: Meets all standards with minor enhancements
- 3 - Good: Meets minimum standards with some improvements needed
- 2 - Fair: Below standards, requires significant improvement
- 1 - Poor: Does not meet standards, requires complete rework
Overall Quality Score = Σ(Dimension Score × Weight)
Quality Thresholds
- Release Ready: ≥ 4.0 overall score
- Review Required: 3.0 - 3.9 overall score
- Significant Rework: 2.0 - 2.9 overall score
- Complete Rework: < 2.0 overall score

Quality Indicators
5 - Exceptional
- Design Token Usage: 100% compliance with design token system
- Component Consistency: All components follow established patterns perfectly
- Visual Hierarchy: Consistent and logical visual hierarchy throughout
- Pattern Application: Design patterns applied consistently across all contexts
- Naming Conventions: Perfect adherence to naming standards
4 - Excellent
- Design Token Usage: 95-99% compliance with design token system
- Component Consistency: Minor deviations from established patterns
- Visual Hierarchy: Mostly consistent with occasional minor variations
- Pattern Application: Design patterns applied consistently with rare exceptions
- Naming Conventions: Strong adherence with minor inconsistencies
3 - Good
- Design Token Usage: 85-94% compliance with design token system
- Component Consistency: Some deviations that don't impact user experience
- Visual Hierarchy: Generally consistent with some noticeable variations
- Pattern Application: Most patterns applied correctly with some inconsistencies
- Naming Conventions: Generally follows standards with some deviations
2 - Fair
- Design Token Usage: 70-84% compliance with design token system
- Component Consistency: Noticeable deviations that may impact experience
- Visual Hierarchy: Inconsistent hierarchy that affects usability
- Pattern Application: Inconsistent pattern application across contexts
- Naming Conventions: Frequent deviations from standards

- Design Token Usage: < 70% compliance with design token system
- Component Consistency: Significant deviations from established patterns
- Visual Hierarchy: Inconsistent and confusing hierarchy

Quantitative Measures
- Token Compliance Rate: Percentage of design elements using approved tokens
- Component Reuse Rate: Percentage of design using existing components
- Pattern Consistency Score: Automated analysis of pattern usage

Qualitative Assessment
- Visual Consistency Review: Expert evaluation of visual consistency

- Screen Reader Support: Optimized for all major screen readers
- Inclusive Design: Considers diverse abilities and use cases
4 - Excellent
- WCAG Compliance: Meets WCAG 2.1 AAA standards
- Color Contrast: All text meets AAA contrast requirements (7:1 normal, 4.5:1 large)
- Keyboard Navigation: Full keyboard accessibility with logical tab order
- Screen Reader Support: Works well with major screen readers
- Inclusive Design: Considers most accessibility needs
3 - Good
- WCAG Compliance: Meets WCAG 2.1 AA standards
- Color Contrast: All text meets AA contrast requirements (4.5:1 normal, 3:1 large)
- Keyboard Navigation: Basic keyboard accessibility implemented
- Screen Reader Support: Compatible with common screen readers
- Inclusive Design: Addresses basic accessibility requirements
2 - Fair
